Vancouver Island - Gold River Highway (BC Highway 28)

The Gold River Highway (BC Highway 28) is a beautiful 89 km (55 mile) ribbon of twisty asphalt that runs from Campbell River, British Columbia on the east coast of Vancouver Island to the village of Gold River on the west coast.

The village of Gold River is primarily a logging community, however the area in and around the village is a recreational paradise.  Hiking, fishing, caving and climbing are available most of the year.  Of course the road into Gold River is popular among motorcyclists because of the road and the scenery along the way.

A good portion of the Gold River Highway passes through Strathcona Provincial Park, the oldest provincial park in British Columbia.  If you like camping, this is a great spot to spend some time.

At the end of the road some great food and a cold drink can be had at the The Ridge Roadhouse in Gold River.  The view from the deck alone is worth the ride.

Vancouver Island is a riding paradise and the Gold River Highway is one of the best.
